Oak Wilt

Ceratocystis fagacearum

Oak Wilt testing for NYS samples for the 2009 season.

The Clinic is accepting oak samples for testing for the oak wilt fungus, Ceratocystis fagacearum. At this time, we do not have funding to help cover the cost of analysis, but we will waving the basic analysis fee for samples that qualify specifically for oak wilt testing. Samples submitted for free oak wilt analysis will be tested only for that pathogen. In any additional testing is requested, the appropriate fee for analysis will apply. If the Clinic becomes overwhelmed by samples for oak wilt testing, we may need to re-evaluate this fee structure. Please contact the Clinic before submitting more than one or two samples at a time.

For best results, please collect branch samples that are at least 1/4 inch in diameter up to 2 inches in diameter. Branches submitted should be from trees showing symptoms. Please do not submit samples from dead trees or branches. Please send the samples early in the week, and ship to the Clinic via a 1 or 2 day delivery service so that samples are fresh when they are received. If necessary, you may keep samples refrigerated in a sealed plastic bag for a few days until they can be shipped. As this service is being offered at no charge at this time, the Clinic reserves the right to not test any samples that are dead, dried out, or do not exhibit symptoms.

If you have any questions, please contact the Clinic at 607-255-7850.

Thank you.
